The castle used to be a part of the defense system protecting the Krakow-Silesia trade route. Its mysterious history is connected with many legends and puzzles. Today the castle is one of the most famous monument of Polish Renaissance architecture.
Below the castle the Ojcow National Park lies with its numerous tourist routes along Jurassic valleys, springs or breathtaking limestone rock forms, like for instance “Hercules' Club” or famous “Lokietek's Cave”, where the king Wladyslaw Lokietek hid from the army of Hungarian king Waclaw.
